  • Rooibos contains very little, if any, vitamin C, as vitamin C is destroyed during the fermentation process
  • Rooibos is, however, a natural source of antioxidants – it is rich in a variety of flavonoids, especially aspalathin, to date only isolated in Aspalathus linearis or rooibos;
  • Rooibos is totally caffeine-free;
  • Rooibos is low in tannin and thus aids iron absorption and works against anaemia;

  • Rooibos protects the heart – The antioxidants in Rooibos minimize cholesterol build-up and prevent blood clots. It is claimed that six cups of Rooibos per day can lower your risk of heart disease by as much as 69%!
  • Rooibos fights insomnia and anxiety – Caffeine can be harmful to the central nervous system, causing irritability, high blood pressure and erratic sleeping patterns. Sixty percent of heavy tea and coffee drinkers show these symptoms.

  • Rooibos helps to alleviate allergies and inflammation – Rooibos boosts the production of cytochrome P450, an enzyme that helps to metabolise allergens. Its antioxidant activity also helps to reduce inflammation and rooibos can therefore help to combat colitis (a disease causing ulcers in the colon).
  • Rooibos regulates immune function – Rooibos can both stimulate and suppress the immune response and can therefore be used to treat several immune-related conditions, ranging from allergic skin conditions to bacterial infections.

  • The anti-spasmodic compounds relieve stomach cramps and colic.
  • The minerals in Rooibos supplement the daily intake of fluoride and calcium and help to develop strong teeth and bones.
  • Rooibos alleviates diaper rash when applied topically with each diaper change.
